PUBLIC READING ROOM OF THE NATIONAL LIBRARY
The former summer refectory is now the General Reading Room of the National Library (1929), following the reconstruction of the Clementinum.
The refectory was completed in 1680.
The rich pictorial and stucco decoration of the hall suggests that it was used not only as a dining room, but also as a place for public readings, recitations and social gatherings.
The Reading Room is large and spacious, with 204 study seats, and is very popular with students and postgraduates.
But it is not only for them that the atmosphere is conducive — any visitor registered with the library has the opportunity to study, read literature and prepare research in a relaxed environment.
