INTERVIEW: PRAGUE LAWYER, JUDR. DENIS KAŠICYN: «PROTECTING THE INTERESTS OF CLIENTS»

Prague Lawyer, JUDr. Denis Kašicyn: «Protecting the interests of clients»

We met with JUDr. Denis Kašicyn in his Prague office (Kolínská 1722/16, Praha 3 - Vinohrady) to discuss current legal issues. Denis graduated from high school in Russia and then from a second high school in Slovakia, where he defended his JUDr. degree in 2015. His work focused on the basic concepts and principles of democracy.

Denis Kašicyn is an active attorney in the Czech Republic (official licence No. 13822 of the Czech Bar Association) and a member of the Moscow Bar Association (certificate No. 77/9184). Denis has been practising law since 2009 and provides civil, family and criminal law services in Czech, Russian and English throughout the Czech Republic.

Denis, let's talk about your practice in resolving family law disputes.

In my practice, I welcome the approach of mutual agreement and amicable settlement, both in the division of property in divorce and in the settlement of children's rights. The key to maximising the satisfaction of both parties in a family dispute is one of the lawyer's tasks. An uncompromising approach to one party's terms is counterproductive in most cases.

What is your attitude to the practice of solving legal problems through advice on social media?

Sometimes advice on the internet can be helpful, but there are also cases of 'harmful' advice. I always recommend that you contact a professional lawyer and get a quality service, and the earlier you contact a lawyer the better.

Based on my nearly 15 years of experience, including family law, I would advise you in some cases to contact a lawyer before you get married. But when choosing a lawyer, you must have complete confidence in him or her.

What is the percentage of successful court cases?

To answer this question, what do you mean by a 'won' case? Let us take an example from criminal law. An acquittal, a termination of the prosecution, a minimum sentence or a sentence imposed by the court below the minimum penalty laid down in the criminal code. All of these can be attributed to the concept of a successful case.

What is your experience in handling criminal cases?

In my practice, I have handled both minor and serious criminal cases, including international cases, including extradition. There have been quite high-profile cases that have been widely reported in the Czech press. At present, criminal cases are mainly economic and cyber-related.

Do people ask for your help when they have problems with renewing their visa or residence permit?

My current practice includes cases related to obtaining refugee status, obtaining citizenship of the Czech Republic, as well as appealing the results to the courts.

This includes appeals against decisions to revoke residence permits in the Czech Republic. There is also an example from my practice that has been widely reported in the Czech media. Due to the attorney-client privilege, I cannot give you the details. I advise you to contact a lawyer to check your documents when applying for an extension of documents for permanent residence or citizenship, as well as in case of rejection or prolonged consideration of applications.

Is continuous learning an integral part of your job?

A lawyer must keep abreast of changes in the law and have up-to-date information, as court practice may change with changes in the law.
