The Academia publishing house was founded in 1953 as the publishing house of the Czechoslovak Academy of Sciences.

It has been called Academia since 1966.

The traditional target groups for Academia’s products are students, teachers and professionals.

In recent years there has been a growing interest in popular science and fiction among the general public.
