View of Wenceslas Square from the National Museum in 1928
View of Wenceslas Square from the National Museum in 1928. The first difference between then and now is the presence of tram traffic.
Trams were introduced to the square, the scene of many historical events, in 1884 and were in operation until 1980. The first plans to renew the tram line in Wenceslas Square were made as early as 1990, and for several decades there were debates and arguments about the return of trams to the square.
It was only in 2019 that Prague City Hall finally decided to build a tram line connecting the National Museum with Jindřišská and Vodičková streets. However, the start of construction has been postponed several times and is not expected to begin until 2024.
